The Mosnel Winery in Franciacorta -
A new article, published on M_use, has entered our Press Review.
It talks about the collaboration between SAIT S.r.l. of Erbusco, Franciacorta, developer of the software Wineability and the companies:
- Mosnel, renowned winery in Franciacorta;
- Avery Dennison, producer of RFId tags;
- San Faustino Label, label printer.
Can the tradition of wine and technological innovation meet and collaborate?
We answer this question by talking about the Mosnel case, a winery that since 1836 has stood the test of time thanks to its long history and ancient winemaking practices intertwined with the modernity of innovative solutions to address the complexities of authenticity, traceability, and consumer engagement.
At the center of this change is Wineability, a customized software developed by SAIT that can effectively extract and process information collected through RFId technology. This technology comes in the form of discreet tags on the bottle that allow wineries to overcome the challenges of wine tracking and authentication without compromising the aesthetics of the packaging. Thanks to RFId technology, wineries can monitor the journey of each bottle from vineyard to consumer, trace bottles in unauthorized markets that disrupt distribution, and achieve a previously unattainable level of control over distribution channels, safeguarding brand reputation simply by scanning the QR code.
But Wineability is much more than a simple QR code! In fact, it can combine the code with the unique ID of a UHF (ultra-high frequency) tag, to provide a certificate of authenticity for each bottle of wine. And thanks to SAIT’s reading tunnel, it can read multiple RFId tags at the same time, eliminating the need to scan each individual bottle and speeding up the packaging process. This ensures precise inventory management and allows wineries to identify which bottle is in which box and even link each bottle to its respective customer. As a result, operations become much simpler and smoother, ensuring a flawless experience for both customer and brand.
And the benefits don’t stop there: Mosnel, committed to sustainability in its packaging, uses this technology to educate its customers. The QR code is linked to a dedicated page on their website containing important information on how to properly dispose of the packaging, as required by law.
Furthermore, in compliance with the recent European Regulation 2021/2117, which came into force at the end of 2023 regarding nutritional content on labels, Wineability’s QR and RFId solutions make label content management flexible and easy. Unlike static labels, these can be updated and modified as needed, allowing wineries to quickly adapt to changes in production volumes or provide personalized information for each bottle.
Wineability therefore not only solves issues of traceability and authenticity but also helps meet legislative requirements.
Personalized experience for the end consumer.
When a customer scans a QR code, the system identifies their location and directs them to a web page in their local language containing all additional information not present on the bottle. This feature also enhances accessibility for visually impaired people.
The Mosnel case is a great example of how technology can blend harmoniously with tradition, thanks to an innovative leap forward that marks a new chapter in winemaking history — where every bottle literally tells its own unique journey, from vineyard to glass. The future of wineries no longer sees them only as guardians of ancient practices but also as ready to embrace emerging technologies.
